I know it has been awhile since I have posted to my blog and my New Year’s resolution is I will post once a week. I have a lot going on right now that I want to share, but today I need to just say my piece.
It’s sad that a horrific tragedy in Newtown, CT is what inspired me to post again, and it took some time for me to be able to string together a proper sentence to describe how heartbroken and angry I am over this needless violent act. …Until now.
This shouldn’t be happening, period.
Guns DO and once again HAVE killed people. This time it was children… 5 to 10 year old children.
He went to THEIR school, similar to the one many of you send your kids to thinking they will be safe and happy and come home to tell you all about what they learned. 5 to 10 year old children won’t be coming home to their families because a mentally unstable man got his hands on a gun, not meant for hunting but meant for killing, decided today was the day they would all die.
How many more tragedies like this have to happen before WE as a society don’t just SAY its enough but DEMAND change?
Does the death toll have to climb to 100 before we look at better psychiatric treatment? Or maybe 40 innocent children must be mass murdered before people stop defending “their right” as a private citizen to own a hand gun or automatic weapon?
And then I hear people saying, “Well if the teachers were armed…” Yes, cause that’s exactly what this world needs…MORE people with guns shooting at each other around CHILDREN!
Am I naive enough to think that this can happen overnight or with a simple ban… No, I’m not.
But I do know this:
Where we are with these issues IS NOT WORKING and we DO need to start somewhere so why not with a ban? Why not more studies and fundraising for mental health? It’s better then sitting by and watching this happen again and again; each time just as senseless and heartbreaking and violating as the last
On the one week anniversary of this horrific act of inhumanity, unnecessary violence and HEART DESTROYING loss, the NRA has decided to hold a press conference…which only further disgusts me. Newtown hasn’t even scratched the surface of healing and this over funded group of “people” think NOW is the time to deflect and propagate!
The Second Amendment was written and added during a time, when automatic weapons weren’t even thought of. A time where there were “outlaws” and duels in the street outside of the Saloon. It was written December 15, 1791 when there was militia and unstable laws. When there was not much of an organized police force as there was now – it is as out of date as segregation laws.
How many more must be horrifically killed? How many more towns like Columbine, Newtown and Aurora to name a few, have to bury so many before people start to realize that the gun laws as they stand ARE NOT WORKING!
